Brisbane Heat have made a major statement ahead of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 11, locking in the services of star wicket-keeper batter Georgia Redmayne for the next three seasons. This move doesn’t just signify squad stability, it signals Brisbane Heat’s intent to build a formidable, experience-driven core that can challenge for titles.
A composed left-handed top-order batter and skilled wicketkeeper, Georgia Redmayne has carved out a unique path through Australian domestic cricket since her debut in 2014. She has represented three teams in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) and featured for three WBBL franchises along the way.
Her breakout moment came in the 2020–21 season, when she captained Queensland Fire to their maiden WNCL title. Redmayne lit up the campaign with two centuries, including a match-winning 134* in the final against Victoria. That stellar form earned her a maiden national call-up, being named in Australia’s 18-player squad for the multi-format home series against India in 2021–22.
Redmayne has consistently been among the top-performing wicket-keeper batters in the WBBL. She made headlines during the WBBL 07 and 08 seasons with her consistency at the top of the order for Brisbane Heat, often anchoring the innings while keeping the scoreboard ticking. Her wicket-keeping, too, has earned her plaudits known for tight glove work, sharp stumpings and smart DRS calls that reflect her reading of the game and calm presence behind the stumps.
Redmayne has been part of the WBBL since its early seasons, playing for the Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers before finding her home in Brisbane. Since joining Heat, ahead of the 2020/21 season, she has become a pillar in their batting order and a reliable performer behind the stumps.
She has amassed a total of 2664 runs with the highest score of 98* playing for Brisbane Heat from 118 innings in WBBL. Georgia has been consistently among the top run-scorers for Heat in the past few seasons, reflecting game awareness and leadership qualities, often stepping in during pressure situations.
While she has yet to make her national debut for Australian, her consistent performances in the domestic circuit keep her in the mix for selection, especially in the longer formats and Australia A tours. Adding to the headline, the WBBL Brisbane Heat have locked in the most successful bowler in Big Bash history with captain Jess Jonassen signing a new two-year deal.
Brisbane Heat’s recent seasons have been marked by strong campaigns, consistent top four finishes, and a clear brand of fearless cricket. Retaining key players like Jess Jonassen, Grace Harris and now Redmayne means they are building a core that can lead across formats and conditions.
Head Coach Ashley Noffke has often spoken about the importance of continuity and experience, and this deal ticks both those boxes. Redmayne’s extended stay gives the team an anchor around whom they can rotate new signings and rising talents.
Georgia Redmayne’s three-year extension is more than just a signing; it’s a signal that Brisbane Heat are serious about investing in excellence. As WBBL 11 nears, all eyes will be on Brisbane Heat and their fans will be cheering loud, knowing they’ve secured one of the league’s smartest and most reliable stars.
